Samit Patel completed his maiden century for England before the tour opener against India A in Mumbai ended in a draw.
Patel,
on 82 overnight, advanced to 104 to cement his claim for a Test place
when the four-match series gets under way in Ahmedabad on November 15.He was finally dismissed by Yuvraj Singh,
one of the left-arm spinner's five wickets as England were all out for 426 in their first innings, a lead of 57.India A reached 124-4 in their second innings when a draw was agreed to bring an end to the three-day fixture at the Brabourne Stadium.
James Anderson
dismissed both openers on the way to figures of 2-20 from seven overs and there was a wicket each for Tim Bresnan and Patel, who got rid of Ajinkya Rahane for 54 shortly before stumps were drawn.Alastair Cook
had gone for 119 in the fifth over of the day, seam bowler Ashok Dinda
(2-86) finding the outside edge as the England captain pushed forward to
end his six-and-a-half hour stay and a fifth-wicket stand of 169 with
Patel.Patel went to his century from 161 balls, including 14 fours, but chipped tamely into the covers shortly afterwards.
Yuvraj followed up with another wicket later in the same over, Matt Prior, who had raced to 51 from 52 deliveries with nine boundaries, edging to slip.
Bresnan (33) and Anderson (19) added useful lower-order runs before Yuvraj completed his best first-class figures of 5-94.
England play two further three-day warm-up fixtures before the start of the first Test.
