England spinner Graeme Swann has returned home from India so that he can be with his ill daughter.
However, the 33-year-old is expected to re-join the squad in time to play in the first Test, which gets underway next week.A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board on Tuesday afternoon said: "Graeme Swann
has returned home to support his family and spend time with his daughter, who is currently unwell."Swann will return to India ahead of the first Test in Ahmedabad, commencing November 15.
"This is a personal matter and we would ask for everyone to give Graeme and his family privacy. We will not be making any further comment."
Swann's daughter Charlotte was only born recently and, before flying to India last month, he spoke of his sadness at leaving her when she was just a week old.
England continue their preparations for the four-match Test series with a warm-up match against Haryana, which starts on Thursday.
With Stuart Broad
and Steven Finn
out injured, James Anderson,
Tim Bresnan
and Graham Onions are set to comprise the seam attack while, in the
absence of Swann, left-arm spinner Monty Panesar is likely to be
selected.Panesar has not played a Test since England lost to Sri Lanka by 75 runs back in March but is expected to be given chance in India, bearing in mind the slow wickets often prevalent on the sub-continent.
