Christian Wade scored
two superb tries as Wasps claimed a 29-19 victory over London Welsh in
their Aviva Premiership clash at Adams Park.
Tom Varndell also crossed the try-line twice as the hosts grabbed a bonus-point victory, while Phil Mackenzie and Franck Montanella grabbed tries for Welsh.Wasps could have won by a far greater margin, however, as they were careless at times and Nicky Robinson missed five from his six attempts at goal.
The home side made a dream start as a sweet move along the line allowed Wade to speed past the cover defence, with Robinson missing the conversion but succeeding with a penalty soon afterwards.
Gavin Henson then got the visitors on the board with a penalty of his own, but Wasps went even further ahead when Lee Thomas and Wade worked Varndell clear and the win took his chance by outflanking the cover.
Henson attempted an ambitious 60 metre penalty but his kick fell comfortably short but when Marco Wentzel was offside, he fired over a 50 metre kick.
On the stroke of half-time an alert Lee Thomas dropped a wide-angled goal in impressive style to give Wasps a 16-6 lead, although the mood was tempered when Joe Simpson was stretchered off with a leg injury.
In the 48th minute Wade struck again as he evaded two defenders before accelerating away from Tyson Keats for a stunning score.
From their first attack of note, Welsh collected their first try as Mackenzie forced his way over, but Wasps responded and sealed the bonus point when Varndell was presented with an easy run in.
Montanella then drove over from close range for Welsh before a late penalty gave them hope of a losing bonus point, but Wasps' Lee Thomas responded with three points of his own soon after.
