Alastair Cook told his England team to be "very
proud" after they became the first side in eight years to win a Test
series in India.
Hundreds from Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell in Nagpur ended any hope the hosts ahead of pulling off a fourth Test win which would have squared the series at 2-2.And in his first tour as full-time captain Cook has overseen England's first success in India since 1984/5 - and the first by any touring Test team since Australia won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2004.
The achievement was all the more impressive given India's crushing victory in the first match in Ahmedabad, and Cook said: "We adapted well.
"The bowlers have been brilliant and our batters have contributed big runs. Everyone in the squad can be very proud, especially after Ahmedabad.
"The guys who played a couple of games all made a difference and the amount of effort the guys have put in for me, I can't ask any more.
"It's always nice when it goes well but I can't praise the team enough. And the support we've had everywhere we've gone, not just from the Barmy Army but also the Indian public, has been fantastic.
"It's a very special day for us, it's been a special tour and we'll have great memories."
