England lost captain
Alastair Cook in controversial circumstances for the second time in the
match and fellow opener Nick Compton on the stroke of tea to keep the
final Test evenly poised in Nagpur.
England skipper Cook
was adjudged to have edged off-spinner Ravi Ashwin through to MS Dhoni
when on 13, however replays suggested otherwise and the left-hander was
clearly disappointed as he made his way back to the pavilion.Despite the obvious setback, England cautiously extended their overall lead to 85 through Jonathan Trott and Compton.
The pair looked set to see out the remainder of the session, however Compton (34) was trapped lbw by Prgyan Ojha off what turned out to be the final ball to keep India in the hunt.
Trott (22no) will be joined in the middle by Kevin Pietersen when play resumes.
Despite still trailing by four first-innings runs, India captain Dhoni had earlier declared after a dull opening hour on day four, where his team added just 29 runs.
Not a single boundary was scored by India, who showed little intent to score quickly, while England were more than content to let them take time out of the game.
Ashwin (29no) continually turned down runs, while Monty Panesar (1-81) could barely muster the enthusiasm to celebrate when he bowled Pragyan Ojha for three.
