Lewis Hamilton looking to be F1's maiden winner at the Circuit of the Americas

Lewis Hamilton is determined to become the first driver to stand on top step of the podium at the inaugural U.S. Grand Prix in Austin this weekend.

The McLaren driver won on Formula 1's last visit to the United States in 2007, his second grand prix victory, and also boasts a strong record at neighbouring Canada's annual Montreal event with three wins in five attempts.
And Hamilton, who has made clear his desire to win at least one of his final two races as a McLaren driver before he departs for Mercedes, admits he cannot wait to finally sample the new Circuit of the Americas in reality for the first time in Friday practice.
"I have to admit - I'm absolutely made-up that we're going back to the States," he said ahead of Sunday's race, which is exclusively live on Sky Sports F1.
"It's a fantastic country and a place where our sport truly deserves to be. I think the Circuit Of The Americas looks like it could also be the place that modern Formula 1 finally calls home.
"I've only driven it on the computer and in the sim, but I think it's going to be a track that drivers enjoy, which produces some great, close racing, and which fans will quickly love."

Ahead of F1's last U.S. GP at Indianapolis, Hamilton had just become the then fourth-youngest driver to win a grand prix at the preceding week's Canadian round amid an unparalleled start to his career at the top level.
"It's crazy to think that the last United States Grand Prix was five years ago!" the now 27-year-old added. "It's a race I still remember like yesterday, though. For me, those were incredible, thrilling times."
